For the true lovers of Italian bread: crusty Italian bread recipe



Although the quality of bread strongly depends on the quality of water and flour, this crusty Italian bread recipe is great to try at home.


Ingredients you need for a loaf of bread:

500 grams of durum wheat flour (or special flour for bread you can easily find in supermarkets)

300/350 grams of water

15 grams of brewer’s yeast

10 grams of salt


Preparation

Put all the ingredients (except for salt) in a bowl and mix with a wooden spoon to have a smooth dough, then add salt.

Knead your dough on a flat surface for about 20 minutes. If you find your dough too dry, then add water little by little. Cover the dough with a humid and warm cloth and leave it rise at a 25° centigrade temperature for about three hours.

Now, shape it as a roll, dust it with flour and make two diagonal incisions with a knife. Leave it rise for about one hour and then put it in the oven at 200° degrees.

Baking time depends on the oven, but to know if your bread is ready, check it with a toothpick, when it comes out perfectly dry, your bread is ready.
